Mitutoyo is deeply committed to sustainability, aligning environmental responsibility with its core mission of precision and innovation.
On a global scale, Mitutoyo has pledged to cut CO₂ emissions by 50% by 2030 (compared to 2018 levels) and achieve ISO14001 certification across the organization as part of its roadmap to carbon neutrality by 2050.
This strategy – known as the “Mitutoyo Green Challenge” – includes ambitious actions within climate protection, resource reuse, and environmentally conscious manufacturing. At its production facilities in Japan, Mitutoyo already operates using 100% CO₂-free energy sources, such as hydropower at the Utsunomiya and Kochi sites. Solar panels have been installed at the Miyazaki plant, and outdated oil-fired boilers have been replaced with energy-efficient cooling systems.
Mitutoyo also develops products and supply chains with environmental care in mind. Product development focuses on energy efficiency and material recyclability – including the use of LED lighting, reduced component complexity, and recyclable materials. All electric tools and measuring instruments comply with directives such as RoHS, which limit the use of hazardous substances.
In its procurement policy, Mitutoyo prioritizes green suppliers. Environmental and social responsibility – including respect for human rights and conflict-free sourcing – are core requirements for all suppliers.
Mitutoyo’s environmentally friendly production sites reflect this philosophy. All facilities operate under a certified ISO14001 environmental management system. At the Japanese plants, for example, LED lighting and resource recycling are part of daily operations to minimize waste and energy use.
Looking ahead, Mitutoyo sees sustainability not just as a responsibility, but as a shared opportunity. As the next generation of skilled experts emerges, initiatives like EuroSkills offer a unique space to exchange ideas and drive innovation. By investing in both green technologies and young talents, Mitutoyo contributes to shaping a future where precision and sustainability go hand in hand.

”By equipping manufacturers with high-precision measuring instruments for quality control, Mitutoyo helps to keep production within specified tolerances. The result? Fewer items ending up in the trash, reduced scrap, and a measurable impact on our planet. It’s sustainability through precision.”
