EuroSkills 2025 and SkillsDenmark have launched a new campaign aimed at breaking down misconceptions about skilled workers. The campaign is running throughout February and March on social media and is based on a study conducted by Epinion, which surveyed 1,024 respondents and mapped out the prevalent stereotypes about skilled workers, particularly among young people.
Key Findings from the Study
- 50% of young people aged 16-24 know someone who holds negative stereotypes about skilled workers.
- 59% agree that the academic level in vocational education is lower than in other types of education.
- 40% perceive career opportunities for skilled workers as more limited than those for university graduates, a belief more common among young people than the general population.
Examples of Common Stereotypes (Open Responses)
- “They are less intelligent than those from other educational backgrounds.”
- “They have fewer career opportunities and perform simple tasks.”
- “Low salaries and the same job for life.”
Through engaging social media content, SkillsDenmark and EuroSkills 2025 aim to reshape these perceptions and inspire more young people to consider vocational education as a valuable and rewarding choice.
